At The Coffee Blog (TCB), we’re not just passionate about great coffee; we’re also committed to minimizing our environmental footprint. One significant step towards sustainability is ensuring that our coffee bags are recyclable. Join us as we explore how you can responsibly dispose of your coffee bags and contribute to a greener future.

Why Recycling Coffee Bags Matters

Coffee lovers know that enjoying a good cup of joe involves more than just the beans—it’s about the entire process, from sourcing to brewing. Similarly, our commitment to sustainability extends beyond the coffee itself to every aspect of our operations, including packaging.

Traditional coffee bags often pose challenges for recycling due to their composite materials, like aluminium seams and seals, and built-in valves. These components make them incompatible with standard recycling processes, often ending up in landfills despite efforts to recycle them.

Introducing Our Recyclable Coffee Bags

To address this issue, we’ve partnered with Eco Barista, an Australian-owned company specializing in eco-friendly coffee packaging solutions. Our new coffee bags from Eco Barista are not only designed to preserve coffee freshness but are also fully recyclable through the REDcycle program.

How to Dispose of Your Coffee Bags Responsibly

  1. Prepare for Recycling:
    • Before dropping your used coffee bags at a REDcycle bin (usually found at Coles and Woolworths stores), ensure you:
      • Peel off the label: Labels are not recyclable and should be disposed of separately.
      • Remove the valve: Cut out the valve portion from the bag and discard it in your general waste.
  2. Find Your Nearest Drop-Off Point:
    • Use the REDcycle locator to find the nearest recycling bin for soft plastics. Simply type in your postcode to locate the closest collection point.
  3. Why Not Just Any Coffee Bag?
    • It’s surprising but true: many coffee bags available today aren’t recyclable due to their complex materials. Our previous bags, like those of many others, contained non-recyclable components that hindered eco-friendly disposal.

TCB’s Commitment to Sustainability

At TCB, sustainability isn’t just a trend; it’s a core value that guides our decisions and operations:

  • Reusable Tubs: We utilize reusable tubs for wholesale coffee deliveries, minimizing single-use packaging.
  • Community Contributions: We donate coffee chaff and grounds to local gardens, reducing waste and enriching soil.
  • Investing in Green Technology: Our recent acquisition of a Loring roaster represents a major step towards reducing CO2 emissions by 83% compared to traditional roasting methods.

Choosing Eco Barista: Quality and Sustainability

Our partnership with Eco Barista wasn’t just about sustainability; it was also about quality and functionality:

  • Recyclability: Their bags are designed to be recycled, aligning perfectly with our environmental goals.
  • Freshness: Eco Barista bags feature resealable designs that keep coffee fresher for longer, ensuring that every cup brewed is as delightful as the last.

Join Us in Making a Difference

By choosing TCB’s recyclable coffee bags and responsibly disposing of them through REDcycle, you’re not just enjoying great coffee—you’re also contributing to a cleaner, greener planet. Every small effort adds up to a significant impact, and together, we can shape a more sustainable future for the coffee industry and beyond.
